As the weekend approaches, it’s almost as if the plans are set before it even gets here, however, in this case it was more than a pleasure to be part of something different other than the norm.
On March 26, we attended the 3rd annual Warrior’s Odyssey Casino Night Fundraiser (also previously known as Penelope’s Odyssey) -and it surpassed our expectations – even though we thought we knew what would happen, as we stated in our preview.
The event was hosted by the Swan Club located in Roslyn, NY – and the entire night was filled with an abundance of great people who were there for one thing only – to help support the organization which assists families affected by Pediatric Cancer.
In case you are wondering about the Warrior’s Odyssey, it was founded in 2012 by Penelope’s parents -Lori Schneider and Matthew Ruderman and is a public charity (after Penelope was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) at the age of three years.
The organization also various other events through the course of the year including and not limited to: Pumpkin picking, petting zoos, MovieLand, Fun Bus and Art full experience, and another huge events at the end of the year titled Winter Wonderland.
They also create spaces were children with Cancer can participate in age appropriate activities within a safe environment, link families to community resources, host local bone marrow registry drives and so much more.
During the course of the night, guests had the opportunity to participate in casino games (Black Jack, Craps, and Roulette tables – all donated by local businesses, the silent and live auction.
Items up for bid included, autographed items from Pink Floyd, Billy Joel, James Gandolfini, authentic baseball bleachers, sports Jerseys, trips to Dominican Republic, and other great gifts.
We also had amazing and inspiring speeches presented by a couple of parents whose kids are currently experiencing Pediatric Cancer.
Congratulations to Warrior’s Odyssey for raising over $70K for during the night – all tallied from the auctions, and of course the participating sponsors: Harpell Chemists, Inc, Kenneth Schneider (DMD), Robert Polowczyk (DDS), AGG Group NY, HalissyGroup, LIJ, Bank of America and many others.
Lastly, as mentioned prior in the beginning, the name may have changed from Penelope’s Odyssey (per the request of Penelope) to Warrior’s Odyssey, however, the mission remains the same.
We definitely will be in attendance to the next Fundraiser and are more than happy to stamp our social agenda to all other events in the interim. For more information on the Warrior’s Odyssey, click here.
