The Ultimate Guide to What to Pack for Your Next Trip

87

With the airline policies constantly changing, more and more people are trying to cram all their necessities into a single carry-on. While it’s not always easy to fit a week’s (or longer) worth of stuff in a small suitcase, we found the best products to make both packing and traveling go as smoothly as possible.

Don’t Forget Anything At Home

While it’s great to mentally list all the things you need, Knock Knock has created the ultimate packing list. Pack This! is “the remedy for pre-trip chaos… an exhaustive checklist of everything you could need.” The pad is perfect for anyone in hurry to pack and equally as great to make sure you’ve got all your belongings before heading home from your destination.

The pad has a space on the top to list your location (with a box in case your destination is unknown!), any special events you’ll be attending, how many days you’ll be away for, along with the predicted temperature and weather. It then breaks down items into 4 categories. The first category, Basics, lists everything from your passport and visas to snacks and motion-sickness remedies. The next category, Miscellaneous, reminds you of vital items such as your cell phone charger, batteries, umbrellas, and important documents (just in case). The 3rd and 4th categories are Clothes and Hygiene, both allowing you to check off items to make sure you don’t leave anything such as your bathing suit or conditioner at home. On the bottom of the list, it states a cheeky reminder to “bring half of what you think you need, and twice as much money.”

If this pad doesn’t help make you a more organized packer, than nothing will!

The Perfect Pair of Sunglasses

We love Hilx sunglasses as not only do they fold up tiny (so you can easily stow them in your pocket or purse) but they also unfold easily with just one hand! Their hydrophobic coated lenses keep the sun out of your eyes and prevent mist and droplets from ruining your vision. Sporty and fun, they’re a must have!

However, for the fashionista who always travels with a few pairs of glasses (yes, we’re guilty of that too!) we recommend nōgs. These interchangeable glasses let you build a new pair to complement your every move and outfit. While they take some time to get used to, once you get the hang of them you can switch up your look easily by changing out the top and bottom of the frame, the arms and even the lenses.

This means you can mix-and-match to your heart’s desire! Go mod with a black and clear look, add a little fun with a bright color or keep it classy and simple with black on black. The options are endless!

Our only concern is traveling with the different pieces- but we came up with a solution! A little tissue paper and an extra hard glasses case work wonders to keep all the pieces together.

The Best Sports Bra

No matter if you’re just planning on spending 30 minutes at the hotel gym, or working up a sweat in the great outdoors, you can’t go wrong with a supportive bra like Lululemon’s new Enlite Bra. With wide comfortable straps which form an x in the back and soft molded cups, this has to be the best bra on the market to date.

Especially perfect if you have a larger bust size, you’ll find that these bras don’t leave you smooshed like their traditional counterparts (aka no uni-boob here). Enlite actually supports better than a traditional sports bra for high-intensity workouts! The straps aren’t adjustable so make sure you find one that really fits you and once you do, you won’t be sorry. We have so many nice things to say about this bra that it really deserves it’s own article!

Keep Everything Close at Hand

Casetify’s Wallet Cases are very useful when you’re on the go. Not only do they protect your phone (as any good phone case should) but there’s also a compartment to hold your credit cards and id.

You can even pop your phone out and securely store your sim card behind it. This is great for anyone who carries around a domestic and international phone when traveling.

If you don’t have an international phone number and plan to be overseas for a while, we highly recommend getting a pay-as-you-go sim card for local calls and emergencies. When you’re back home, you can slide your extra sim card in the phone case’s slot until your next trip! The case even has it’s own sim card pin key, so you’ll always have one on hand to make the switch.  Plus they come in a bevy of cute designs you’re sure to find one you’ll love carrying!

Pack Some Extra Space…

On Your Phone

RAVPower is a small USB drive which connects to your iPhone, iPad or iPod allowing you to store or back-up photos and information so that you have plenty of room on your phone for new vacation pics, music or apps.

When traveling, it’s the perfect place to store movies and playlists to listen to (without wasting precious room on your device!). It’s also ideal for when that dreaded out of room message pops up while documenting your travels. Rather than wasting time deleting photos, you can simply save your photos directly to your RAVPower.

We also recommend backing up your device onto it, just in case it happens to get lost, stolen or broken while on your trip – at least you’ll know your information is secure.

A Foldable Beach Towel

If you’re staying at an all inclusive resort then it might not be necessary to think about, but many hotels do not include beach towels. Rather than grabbing your usual bulky towels, which take up way too much room, we recommend these innovative colorful towels by Tesalate. The Australian brand’s beautiful designs repel sand (their silky texture allows for sand to slide right off), ultra absorbent and dry rapidly!

Super compact and lightweight, just fold it up into it’s little pouch and it will only take up slightly more room than two paperback novels. Tesalate towels come in an vast array of designs to choose from, each featuring their signature black and white geometric pattern on the other side. Flip your towel over and it’s like having two-in-one!

NYSA is also a fan of Riviera Towel Company‘s Essential towels made from Turkish cotton. Lightweight and very thin, these towels can do double duty as sarongs or wraps, making them perfect for traveling.

While we love the beautiful textiles, our favorite aspect is that with the purchase of a towel from Riviera Towel Company you’re helping support their efforts to protect the ocean, as proceeds help fund marine foundations such as Whale and Dolphin Conservation, National Marine Sanctuaries, Sea Turtle Conservancy, Channel Islands Park Foundation, Coral Restoration Foundation and many others.

A Dress Perfect For Every Occasion

Kameleon Rose’s The Ultimate Travel Dress by Leila Rose Faddoul is our new packing essential! Not only is the dress non-creasing (so important for travel!) and quick drying but it also has a secret pocket and can be worn in 20 different ways!

With this dress you can be prepared for any situation that might arise. Slide it up and it’s a cute strapless dress or pull it down for a beautiful mermaid style skirt. Plan on riding a bike, doing something a bit more athletic or just looking for the freedom that comes with pants? Simply button up the hem and you’re good to go! Or turn the garment upside down and it easily transforms into a cute top or mini dress.

Faddoul got the idea to create an adaptable dress while on her own travels in New Zeland. While on a picnic, she found she was unable to sit crosslegged in her beach dress. Rather than finding herself uncomfortably shifting positions all day, Faddoul sewed a few buttons to the hem of her dress and created a jumpsuit! Giving up a lucrative career as a doctor, Faddoul returned to Madagascar to begin her designs on the dress. Mada is one of the poorest countries in the world but the textile industry is really skilled here. Our mission is all about freedom. Freedom for women from limiting clothing. Our production is made in a factory with ethical conditions where people and the environment are respected. We also collaborate with a charity that helps children in need, we provide trips for these kids to go to the beach, most have never left their village.” Faddoul hopes that with her amazing designs she is able to help more children go on trips to give them freedom as well!

To see all the different ways you can style this dress and help Faddoul bring freedom to Madagascar, check out Kameleonrose.com

A Little Protection in Case of Rain

If you’re planning to encounter a little rain on your trip, it’s best to be prepared. You could just grab an umbrella at the airport or once you land, but is just us or do those things always seem to break after just one or two uses? Instead opt for a better designed umbrella like the beautiful ones at Davek New York.

Their super tiny option, the Davek mini, is great for carrying around in a pocket or purse, but their flagship umbrella, The Davek Solo, is really the one to choose if you’ll be in some serious downpours. This umbrella is a bit heavier than your usual pocket umbrellas, but it’s sturdy design and patented Carbon WindFibre frame can stand up against some serious gusts of wind. We love the ease of the one-push open and close system- and if the umbrella does happen to invert, push it again to correct itself: it’s that easy. If you want something with a bit more protection than the mini, but perhaps a bit smaller than the solo, try the Traveler. This compact umbrella does have a bit of weight to it, but is the perfect middle ground if you’re looking for something both compact and that performs well in bad weather.

After testing all three umbrellas in storms and small sprinkles, we have to say it’s worth spending a bit more on a quality umbrella. While it does cost more than your typical drugstore model, think of a Davek as an investment to protect your hair and keep you dry!

Sometimes you’re really looking for a handsfree way to keep the elements of your back and…. head. During those instances, nothing beats a really great rainproof hood. Unfortunately many of our favorite coats and jackets lack proper head covering options. If you find yourself in a beautiful wool coat without a hood or a jacket with less than adequate waterproofing, check out Hood To Go, a lightweight vest with an attachable rain hood that you wear underneath your coat or jacket. Simply slip your arms through the vest, put on your favorite coat and you instantly have a hood in case of inclement weather! We love how roomy the hood is (perfect for tucking in and protecting your hair!) and how well it blends in, so it doesn’t disrupt our style. It even comes in it’s own carrying pouch so you can store it for later.

If a hood in a pouch is not your thing (we can’t see why you wouldn’t love it though) check out Just Solutions! Rain Scarf. This reversible scarf turns into a rain hood in 2 easy steps! While we love the idea of a scarf with a waterproof hood, it can be a bit bulky and thick for everyday wear. However, if you know rain is in the forecast, it’s a great option to drape around your neck for when it starts to pour. If the sun reappears later, simply flip it inside out, back to a scarf.

Everyday Essential Denim:

For the softest denim ever, check out Grana’s Turkish Denim High-Rise Cropped Skinny Jeans. We love the array of washes and colors they come in and they feel heavenly. Grana, who’s known for luxurious fabrics at attainable price points, makes a bevy of basics perfect for traveling. We’d recommend pairing their Turkish Denim with one of their Peruvian Pima Cotton tees for an outfit that’s both chic and comfy!
