Let’s get down to it from the start. Attending a Gala of any sort is a great way to assist and show appreciation and support for causes that make up what we call life. Whether your purpose for attendance is to widen your social group or for other reasons – once you have attended one, hopefully, it becomes a motivation and inspiration to be part of it again.
On Tuesday, February 28, Author, NYC Mission Society’s Co-Chair and Philanthropist Jean Shafiroff and Martin Shafiroff were kind enough to open their doors to their private residence to host a reception kicking off the upcoming annual Champions for Children Gala presented by the NYC Mission Society.
A great organization fighting on the front lines and advocating against poverty for more than 200 years. Since then, while developing their progressive portfolio supporting education, workforce development, cultural enrichment and community-building programs the organization continues to make a positive impact where over 13,000 children and families throughout New York City have benefited.
Last night’s soiree was attended by: Jean Shafiroff, Martin Shafiroff, Elsie McCabe Thompson, Kenita Lloyd, Katrina and Don Peebles, Jay Morehead, Peggy and John Bader, Stan and Leah Rumbough, Geoffrey Bradfield, Edward Cox, Michael and Barbara Gross, Randi Schatz, Larry Milstein, B. Michael and Mark Anthony, Alex Donner, Helen Shelton , Craig Dix, Larry Kaiser, Flo Anthony, Angela Chen, Suzette Charles, Maggie Norris, Frederick Anderson, Joyce Brooks, Amanda Bowman , Natalie Ross, William Allen, Victor DE Souza, Maggie Norris, and Matt Rich.

Now that you have history marinating through – first and foremost tell everyone you know to buy tickets and mark the calendars for the Champions for Children Gala on April 5, 2017. Similar to 2016, the Gala will be held at the beautiful Mandarin Hotel on 80 Columbus Circle in Manhattan. If this is your first time at the Gala, and/or at the venue, you are in for a treat.
Bill Ritter (WABC Anchor and longtime supporter of the Mission Society) will emcee the event while Kathy Sledge (legendary voice of Sister Sledge), acclaimed singer Alex Donner and his Orchestra, and students enrolled in the Mission Society’s free after-school music education program, GRIOT serenade you with further entertainment. See you in a few weeks. In the meantime, for more details and to kick start the donations, click here.
