Welcome to the Upper West of New York. A neighborhood expanding from West 59th – 119th Street and also resting between the Hudson River and Central Park.
The UWS hosts Columbia University on the North and Lincoln Center on the South. However, most importantly this New York borough is home to the Columbus Avenue Business Improvement District (“BID”).
The Business Improvement District is a 501 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation and has become one of New York City’s official business districts.
The BID area covers West 67th Street to West 82nd Street and continuously offers an abundance of shops, restaurants, and cool museums including the American Museum of Natural History and the New-York Historical Society.
The organization focuses adding and enhancing public spaces to help businesses prosper and increase the quality of life for the visitors and residents.
Enter New Taste of the Upper West Side!
Three days of sampling infinite delicious, mouth-watering, tantalizing, dishes from a grand selection of restaurants located on the Upper West Side celebrating prominent chefs from the UWS – and this is the rundown and how we remember it.
May 27 – Soiree in the Park – at Theodore Roosevelt Park. Live music, bubbly and hors d’oeuvres from Maria LoLoi (Loi Restaurant), Cesare Casella (Salumeria Rosi Parmacotto), Sarabeth Levine (Sarabeth’s), Matthew Oetting (Caffe Storico), Rodney Mitchell (Calle Ocho), Lala Sharma (Savoury Indian Restaurant & Bar) and Corvo Bianco.
May 29: Comfort Classics presented by Sysco at Grand White Tents -76 & Columbus. Hosted by Travel Channel’s and NBC’s host of Food Fighters and Alex Guarnaschelli from The Butter Restaurant helped to welcome over forty restaurants, international wine, spirits, beer and so much more great entertainment.
Congratulations to 5 Napkin Burger for winning the “Best Comfort” dish. Gosh Darnit- that explains the infinite line at their station. Those burgers must have been mighty tasty!
Oh well – guess will have to settle for visiting one of their locations.
May 30: Best of the West. More lights, cameras, disco balls, Swing and live Band, Aerial silk acrobatics, and, of course, more food.
Hosts: Chef Anne Burell, Marc Murphy, Lauren Scala, and Special Guest appearance by Katie Lee from Food Network’s The Kitchen.
Great weather (with the exception of a rainy evening on May 27), talking and dancing the night away with fellow New Yorkers, rubbing elbows with top chefs while they autograph their books – what more could you ask for?
Hopefully, if you were there, and arrived early enough, you snagged your copies of Straight Up Tasty (Adam Richman), Endless Summer Cookbook (Katie Lee), Own your Kitchen (Anne Burrell) and Season With Authority by Marc Murphy.
If you didn’t – well life goes on, however, you can always buy the books at your local bookstores.
The social calendar has already stamped the New Taste of the Upper West Side once again to attend next year.
