How time flies – and just think a new year is creeping around the corner in about a month or so. In the meantime, New York keeps its promises by producing events -providing entertainment but also giving back to the city as well.
On November 10, the Waterfront housed 17th annual New York Taste presented by Citi and hosted by New York Magazine -a foodie event to celebrate 45 of the most celebrated chefs and mixologists – and a portion of the proceeds were donated to City Harvest.
City Harvest was founded in 1982 and is now the world’s first food rescue organization. A group of ordinary people were motivated to start the organization after discovering how local restaurants threw away large doses of good food.
After sharing the information with friends, they rounded up a group of people, borrowed cars and started transporting leftover food to people and places in need – and voila! City Harvest was born.
Since its inception, more than 500 million pounds of food is donated around to 500 (and counting) community food programs around New York City – as an approach to fight hunger.
City Harvest also partners with local establishments including businesses through their Healthy Neighborhoods programs promoting nutrition education and resources to maintain a healthier way to eat that includes vegetables and fruits.
Fast forward back to the New York Taste event, where guests had the chance to mingle and taste culinary creations from celebrity chefs including Marcus Samuelsson (Streetbird Rotisserie & Red Rooster), Galen Zamarra (Almanac), Markus Glocker (Bâtard), Bobby Schaffer (Blue Hill at Stone Barns), Brian Ray (Buddakan), Julie Reiner (Clover Club), Roberto Santibañez (Fonda), Miro Uskokovic (Gramercy Tavern), Cédric Vongerichten (Perry Street), Stephanie Abrams & Francisco Blanco (Rotisserie Georgette), Laurent Tourondel (L’Amico), Daniel Holzman (The Meatball Shop), Jamie Bissonnette & Ken Oringer (Toro), Justin Smillie (Upland), Heather Pelletier (Osteria Morini), Bryce Shuman & Eamon Rockey (Betony), Sam Mason (OddFellows Ice Cream Co.), Joe Ng (Red Farm), Ivy Mix (Leyenda), JJ Johnson (The Cecil) and many more.
Bridge Lane Wines, the official event wine sponsor among other spirits help keep the party going. Cheers to a great event. Hope to see you at the next New York Taste , next year. For more information and how to donate to City Harvest, click here.
