Nothing beats an excuse to dress up, head downtown to a swanky apartment building, for a free fashion show, open new doors of connections by meeting new people, participate in a wine auction and, of course, spending time with the amazingly creative projections presented by Amanda Selwyn’s Dance Theater.

On January 28, guests gathered together to celebrate the annual White Night event to honor and celebrate Anna-Alisa Belous – long time collaborator for the company.

If the dance company sounds familiar it’s because Amanda does a fantastic job bringing together people with her out of the box creations that always leave a desire to crave more. The last edge of the seat mind-opening event attended was the Crystal White Gala – and that in itself turned out to be a blast.

This night, however, took the guests on a journey rewinding from past costumes used and created by Anna-Alisa and also gave us a preview of a new work in progress titled: Refuge- inspired by Francesco Clemente’s Encampment.

First, ask yourself what is the definition of Refuge – and most importantly what does it mean to you?

For some, it may seem to escape the pressures of life by submerging inwards and thus begins the journey for renewal.

Amanda’s mission is to enlighten the transformation via athletic, sensuous and raw movement featuring solos and duets -defining the essence of her work.

The new production will highlight the power of humanity facilitating through relationships and motif. Six dancers will be able to showcase the work via open rehearsals, studio performances – while wearing more beautiful and eclectic designs from Anna-Alisa – what more could you ask for during the 2016-2017 season?

However, prior to the premiere of Refuge, eating delicious food, quenching the thirst with sweet libations and watching notes in motion showcasing the four elements: air, fire, water and earth – was the call of the night.

Then again this is the real meaning of the night: Costumes and Cocktails. For more information on Amanda Selwyn Dance Theater, and upcoming productions, click here. See you soon.
